Here are some haunting old photos from that sad time in American history.

I've gone to a lot of estate sales in my time and I honestly never come across these items.  I'm not sure where they are coming from because there seems to be a constant supply of them available on eBay.  I think people listing these things have probably recognized their value for a long time and have been storing them away in attics or scrapbooks just waiting for the day that they would actually get around to selling them.

Certainly there are people who like to collect Civil War pictures and papers.  They most likely will not part with their treasures unless they are putting them into a museum of some sort.  I was very surprised to see how relatively common it was to see items from the Civil War turning up in eBay auctions.  My gut instinct would have been to think they would be extremely rare and hard to find.
